5Want True Weight Results Buy This ScaleSep 17, 2010
I purchased this scale after I had began a weight loss program and Tanita scale with all the body composition was revealed to me. Prime example was the actual fat loss Vs. water loss. It is amazing to see the fat loss and know that the diet is working even if the scales has stayed the same, due to water weight. The scale helps with daily water intake by the % reflected. For along time I did not believe that water intake had alot to do with weight loss, but was proven wrong. So drink your water!!!
I used to get so discouraged if the scale did not reflect loss, but when my body fat is dropping I know that soon that scale will move and I allow my body to adjust.
I did have a Tanita scale before purchasing this one, it did have a few composition details but not all the ones I have now. Love Tanita products.

5Awesome!Sep 13, 2010
By Jackson
I finally had to break down and buy a new body fat scale, as my old Tanita finally gave out after 8 years of faithful service. I found an inexpensive body fat scale and thought I would be happy . Big mistake. It was another brand and I knew right away it was going back: it was difficult to learn, it had a reading that changed every time I stepped on it and it's buttons were so flimsy it would only work intermittently. I sent it back and did more research. After reading the other positives on this Tanita scale, I decided to spend the extra money (when you divide it by the number of years my last one lasted, I realized it would not be so bad.
This one is awesome. It was the most easy (even easier than my last Tanita), had more calculations (within 1%) and is Heavy Duty. You won't be sorry. VERY EASY VERY ACCURATE. I have already begun to loose weight, just from being inspired by watching my numbers go down. I'm 55 years old, and it has a function that tells me my metabolic age (rate I burn fat) has dropped from that of a 38 year old to a 31 year old tonight. That's inspiring. It does calculate fat better if you take it after a bath (hydrates=more muscle less fat) and at night.

5Tanita BC-549 Ironman Body Composition MonitorNov 02, 2010

I purchased this product as a replacement to another Tanita scale. This product has a very robust feature set and offers the user a lot of information the typical consumer may not have interest. This product is aimed at individuals who track and maintain various body characteristics and most likely are strongly athletically oriented. I have found the scale very accurate and consistent-consistent being the most important.

Programming the unit to the users specifications is fairly straight forward. It took me a couple of uses to be prepared to record the information because the unit moves through the various readings at a pretty good clip. You need pen in hand and ready to write once the readings become available. The memory allows you to retrieve the data, but preferrably you only go through it once. The screen is clear, numbers are large and easy to read, and as far as scales go, I guess it's relatively attractive.

The unit was shipped right away. The packaging was good, and there is a lot of user information on how to interpert the readings. I am very pleased with this unit. I love all the data. It 'wakes up" and gets right to business faster than the older model. I would recommend the unit to those who have an interest in tracking health attributes beyond just weight, water percentage, and fat percentage. It's a great product and I think Tanita has carved out a reputation for itself in this space. This is a great tool to help reach your health goals. Good luck on your decision. Hope this helps.

1Me Too - Won't Honor WarranyJan 08, 2011

Tanita Doesn't Stand Behind Their Warranty - Even When You Have The Receit and The Orginal Shipping Container. Apparently not only is the battery compartment not sealed to keep the humidity out, but also the main electronics as well,so if the battery springs are rusted they know the electronics also has seen humidity and fall because of it and somehow think that it's your fault. Good electronics (made in USA) is dipped in a sealant (epoxy) so this won't happen. I suspect all the China scales that use 4 AA batteries also use the same style printed circuit and chip so they all have the same end of life pattern - you get more and more loss of function (doesn't beep/can't enter data/can't change person ID) befor the dreaded " E-O-R-R-O-R ". and Tanita says " This is not a warranty issue". Well in this country it is a Warranty Issue. This scale cost two to three time what simlar scales cost for the same marginal quality so if your not paying for longevity and your not paying for technology (% body numbers are from a chart not calculated) then USA scales start to look pretty good, comparing cost of scale divided by life of product. Mine was $40.00 per year. You can do much better than that.

5EXCELLENTNov 25, 2011

I am pleased with the TANITA BC-549 IRONMAN BODY COMPOSITION MONITOR. On the day that I was to follow-up with the bariatric surgeon for my 6 month check-up I weighed myself. I compared the results of the TANITA at the clinic and found them to be almost identical to the results I had on mine. It is easy to program and the information is very useful, especially for people who must monitor muscle mass vs. fat mass following bariatric surgery. GREAT!
